My Backyard Chicken Political Effort: Local author is advocating for backyard chicken keeping in Lima Township


We were forced to rehome our hens when we moved from urban Ann Arbor to rural Lima Township, something that still doesn't make sense to me. I recently attended my local township meeting in hopes of convincing them to update their ordinance to allow backyard chickens in residential areas. Last night, the Lima Township Board authorized the Planning Commission to put together a backyard chicken ordinance amendment, which will allow more residents (like me!) to be able to keep chickens. Once the commission comes up with the proposal, the board will then vote on whether to approve it.
